On Friday the 25th of April we were totally psyched. Totally psyched as we were performing at Fitness Fiesta in Hemsby! We’re so very lucky to have been invited to perform 8 times for Fitness Fiesta, we love it! We were very chuffed to be asked back to be their party band for the evening.
We left early, like really early. Friday traffic is always pretty hectic and people generally seem quite angry so there’s lots of road rage and unnecessary tooting of horns and lots of braking. We were also scheduled to pay a visit to the M25, or as we like to call it ‘the most unpredictable but very likely to be very slow moving/not moving at all motorway’ in the UK. Boy we’re glad we left early! The M25 was shut so Sat Nav took us through all sorts of lovely villages with names like Chorleywood and Seven Acre Forest (OK so not that one), but you get our drift. Sat Nav took us the very scenic route, down lots of lovely wee lanes, designed for bicycles, unicycles and horse and trap, and definitely not designed for The Red Dragon (the band van, it’s red and we make dragon noises while we are in it). After a few hairy moments, some lovely views and a gentle caress with a pick up truck, we were on our way again, patting ourselves on the back for leaving extra early. 6 hours after we left, 2 pit stops later, and a lots of rehearsing in the The Red Dragon, we made it! Hello Hemsby.
Having performed at Hembsy before, we were familiar with the set up and loaded our equipment on to the REALLY BIG AND HIGH stage. It was really big and high. We loved it, and we left lead guitartist Ben Jones to make plans for the ultimate crowd surf. We sound checked, it was brilliant. Now that we use 4 bass bins as our standard set up, we have such a wicked sound.
After setting up, Drummer Master East and I ventured to the Rio Bar to fetch the keys for our accommodation for the evening. The Rio Bar was every bit as amazing as it sounds.
After a quick nibble on sandwiches and some fruit shortcake biscuits, we were on! We were RARING to go and had the most awesome set planned. We have a huge repertoire so it can be hard to select from so many, but we nailed it! From the off, everyone was up dancing. We had some awesome tracks from Amy Winehouse, Wild Cherry, Queen, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5! And some real surprises thrown in there too! There was even a conga at one point. Bloomin’ brilliant. We had a quick break before our second set. The atomsphere was out of this world, I wish we could have bottled it.
The next day, we drove to our next gig, we discussed what fun we had, made jokes and ate some fruit. Life was good.
